Supabases main disadvantage as a platform are the unreliable Edge Functions. It's a fact that around 1-2% of edge function requests fail at the infrastructure level (https://github.com/supabase/edge-runtime/issues/263). This is unacceptable for any production grade application. I've had great success with all other components of supabase and if you just fixed reliable compute - the platform would be a no brainer but I am now considering leaving for my next project.
For us, a container as a service offering such as Cloud Run would be a perfect match. It would mean we essentially had all our compute needs solved. Edge functions are not just unreliable, but it has its own limitation regardless of if you fix the reliability issue such as wall clock times and cold starts.
The user expresses concern over the reliability of Supabase's Edge Functions, citing a failure rate of 1-2% at the infrastructure level. They mention that this unreliability is a significant disadvantage for production applications and are considering alternatives like Cloud Run for more reliable compute solutions.
