Dopastep — https://dopastep.com — a focus app where you work through a task alongside other people in a live room.
Built solo on Next.js with @supabase/supabase-js 2.110.1.
The product is body doubling: you break a task you've been avoiding into small steps, then join a live focus room and work in synced focus/break cycles with whoever else is in it. No camera, no chat, no booking.
Where Supabase carries the load:
Launched July 2026, still early. Happy to answer anything about the presence setup.
Wangchong introduces Dopastep, a focus app built on Next.js using Supabase's Realtime presence to manage honest room occupancy. The app allows users to work on tasks in live rooms without cameras or chat. Wangchong highlights the challenge of cold starts, where potential users leave due to empty rooms, and seeks advice on overcoming this issue.
interesting concept, in the discord we have a channel for showcase if you want to share there and also we have a casual wednesday gathering where people present projects/stuff they are working on
Thanks Ibrahim — joined, and found both.
I'll put Dopastep in #showcase, and I'll be at Casual Wednesdays on the 5th.
If it's useful as a talking point: the Realtime presence side works well — honest occupancy, including tab-close disconnects. What I haven't solved is cold start. People land, read for a few minutes, open the room list, see it's empty, and leave. A body-doubling app is worth nothing with one person in it, so I'd genuinely like to hear how others here got past the first-N-users problem.
